Stafford Welcomes Refugees joins Oxfam in Stafford Town centre

The picture here are of Oxfam workers plus volunteer members of Stafford Welcomes Refugees . SWR member are on the front row, from left: Jill Atkins (Secretary) , Lucy McWilliams (Campaigns) , Netta Cartwright (Chairperson) and Marie Procter (Treasurer).

To mark Refugee Week, Stafford Welcomes Refugees (SWR) joined up with Oxfam who built an installation of a refugee camp in Stafford Market Square. It is  a typical refugee family tent with toilets and washing stations as you would find in a refugee camp.

Hopefully this has given the people of Stafford a glimpse of the conditions in camps that our SVPR (Syrian Vulnerable Person Relocation) families have come from. It gives us all a sense of perspective to the work done nationwide by councils like Stafford County Council, Stafford Borough Council and charities like Oxfam, Spring, Refugee Action and voluntary ‘welcome’ organisations like SWR.
